Solving the Insurance Crisis

This plan began with  a volunteer group of nine executives with backgrounds in legislation, law, business, catastrophe insurance, insurance agency, insurance underwriting, insurance consulting, lobbying and Federal procurement budgeting. The plan is now "going public" through a newly formed non-profit corporation to be known as the Shield Our State Coalition.

Daniel Montgomery

Dan Montgomery began his career as a real estate broker and developer. He then moved to Wall Street, where he specialized in commodities trading, and subsequently founded and ran an international trade and finance company. During the past 16 years Dan has become an expert in catastrophe insurance claims and reconstruction, contracting his services to major national and international carriers, as well as negotiating claim settlements on behalf of policyholders against their carriers. Dan has adjusted, reviewed and managed catastrophe claims and teams nationwide, and has held certifications with the Florida Windstorm Underwriting Authority, the National Flood Insurance Program, claims appraisal umpire under the Florida Windstorm Association, along with numerous industry advanced training seminars. Dan has also served as the Florida Regional General Adjuster for the world’s leading claims management company.

Dan was one of the founders of the ”St. Petersburg Group”, a group of nine volunteer executives, who devoted over two years to the research of facts and data which led to Dan’s writing of the business plan “Solving the Crisis”. Dan also created a website, which gave the public a forum within which to keep updated on the perils of our present system of insuring hurricanes, and an explanation of a more efficient method to deal with the problem. Dan has presented the plan to state and federal legislators, elected officials, civic groups, state and national associations, economists, actuaries, financial analysts and the news media. Finally, Dan has taken a leave from his contracts for claims consulting to devote himself full-time to the resolution of the hurricane insurance crisis. He has formed a non-profit corporation, Shield Our State, which will be a statewide coalition of business and civic leaders, property owners, and associations, with significant financial backing, to bring forth solutions and, eventually, legislation aimed at addressing and restructuring once and for all the economic catastrophe that could follow a natural catastrophe when it happens.

As we complete our corporate inauguration, we will post the biographies of our Advisory Board of State leaders, currently being assembled.
